Trippany's big play left big impression
MILESTONE NUMBERS: Massena player first Red Raider to hit 1,000
MONDAY, JANUARY 14, 2008

Big body, big numbers.

That's Dani Trippany's legacy at Massena.

At 6 feet 5 inches tall, Trippany completed her Massena basketball career with 1,338 points and 1,125 rebounds, becoming the first player at the school — boy or girl — to surpass the 1,000 mark in both of those statistical categories. She was also the first Massena basketball player to jump to the Division I college level.

After being named the Times All-North MVP in girls basketball after her senior season in 1997, Trippany moved on to Providence College, where she enjoyed mixed results over a five-year stay.

After appearing in 26 games as a freshman, Trippany played just one game as a sophomore for the Friars as she battled foot injuries. She came back to appear in 19 games the next season and 27 more as a senior. Her greatest success came in her fifth year, when she played in 28 games — starting 25 — and averaged 10.8 points per game to lead the Friars. She was second on the team in rebounding average (6.2).

In 2002, at the end of her Providence playing career, Trippany accepted the school's Paul Connolly Award, which is given annually to a female athlete in recognition of sportsmanship, courage and honor. She was also named the team's MVP in 2002.

Trippany, 28, who was also a standout softball player at Massena, has returned to her alma mater for work in her professional career. She teaches special education at the high school and assists her father, George, who is the head coach of the junior varsity girls basketball team.
