Remembrance ceremony set for today at Fort Drum

FORT DRUM — Three 1st Brigade Combat Team soldiers who were killed while deployed to Iraq will be honored during a Mountain Remembrance ceremony on post today.

Pfc. George J. Howell, an infantryman assigned to 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, was killed Dec. 21 when his convoy was struck by an improvised explosive device near Riyadh, Iraq.

Sgt. Timothy R. Van Orman, an infantry noncommissioned officer assigned to 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, was killed Feb. 5 during combat operations in Iraq.

Pfc. Jack T. Sweet, an infantryman assigned to 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, was killed Feb. 8 near Jawwalah, Iraq, when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device.

The public is invited to the ceremony, at 4:30 p.m. at the main post chapel.
