Rensselaer overcomes SUNY Potsdam
THURSDAY, MARCH 27, 2008

TROY — PJ McComb led Rensselaer past SUNY Potsdam, 9-5, with two goals and three assists in a nonleague men's lacrosse game Wednesday.

Mike Sampson and Tom O'Dwyer each scored twice for the Red Hawks (5-1).

Zac McIlmoyle had three goals for the Bears. Kyle Phelix and Dustin Dunn supplied a goal apiece while goalie Billy Richards made 11 saves for Potsdam (2-2).

ST. LAWRENCE 15, SUNY OSWEGO 6

Kevin Russell scored five goals to lead the Saints past the Lakers in a nonleague game in Canton. Will McKee followed with three goals, and Thomas Hollingsworth made four saves for SLU (1-2).

Mike Recor scored four goals, and John Schumacher added two goals for SUNY Oswego (1-4).

JEFFERSON CC 14, MONTGOMERY CC 10

Sean McAuliffe scored five goals and passed out three assists to help lead the Cannoneers to a nonconference victory at Rockville, Md.

Taylor Jennings chipped in with two goals and six assists, while Ben Call added four goals for Jefferson (2-1).

Devin Heldt turned in 13 saves for JCC.

UTICA 11, NAZARETH 9

Former Immaculate Heart Central standout Michael Bulger contributed three goals and an assist as the Pioneers knocked off the nationally ranked Golden Flyers in an Empire 8 matchup in Utica.

Lowville's Tanner Stewart added two goals for Utica (2-6, 1-1), which defeated Nazareth (4-2, 1-1) for the first time in school history. Watertown native Travis Wright stopped 17 shots.

SOFTBALL

SUNY POTSDAM 6, OBERLIN 4

SUNY Potsdam handed Oberlin its 12th loss of the season, beating the Yeomen in a nonleague game at Fort Myers, Fla.

Sophie Schacht hit a two-run home run in the loss for Oberlin (0-12).

ST. OLAF 13, SUNY POTSDAM 4

The Bears committed seven errors in the second game at Fort Myers, Fla., and allowed eight unearned runs to score in the nonleague loss to St. Olaf. Kjirstin Speer had two hits and drove in five runs for the Oles (3-2).

Jillian Dunkleberger went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Ashley McCoy took the loss for Potsdam (4-6).

DUPAGE 4-9, JEFFERSON CC 1-1

Despite generating 14 hits, the Cannoneers were swept by the College of DuPage during the Snowbird Classic at Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Eliza Gaines led off Game 1 with a triple for the Cannoneers (2-4), and scored on a Stacey Finley single.

Malia Cole smacked a two-run homer in the fifth for DuPage.

In Game 2, DuPage scored in every inning except the third en route to the win.

Liz Sligar and Gaines each went 2-for-3 in Game 2. Finley finished the day with three hits, including a double in Game 2.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

SUNY POTSDAM 14, PACIFIC 7

Alisha Schaad led the Bears with five goals and an assist in a nonleague win over Pacific in Forest Grove, Ore.

Kelsey Shoen added three goals, and Lindsay Myers had 12 saves in the win for Potsdam (3-1).

Mimi Takamune scored three times to lead Pacific (3-4).

ST. LAWRENCE 17, SUNY GENESEO 16

The Saints rallied to score four goals in the final seven minutes to hand SUNY Geneseo its first loss of the season in a nonleague game in Canton.

Amanda Forbes scored five goals, Alanna Waters added five assists, and Anna Marchand recorded 11 saves for SLU (4-1).

Maggie Benham tallied a game-high six goals, while Maggie Morris found the goal on five occasions for Geneseo (3-1).
