EDWARDS — The body of a 57-year-old Edwards woman was recovered Monday afternoon from the Oswegatchie River in the town of Fowler.

Romona N. Klock, who reportedly suffered from dementia, had been the subject of a search since about 1 p.m., when her family reported her missing after spotting her car parked beneath a Route 58 bridge in the town of Fowler, state police said. Family members had been looking for her since about 7 a.m., according to state police.

Divers from fire departments from throughout St. Lawrence County converged on the bridge, about nine miles south of the village of Gouverneur, on Monday afternoon. A hovercraft and state police helicopter were brought in to aid in the search.

Mrs. Klock's body was spotted about a quarter of a mile downstream from the bridge by searchers aboard a state police helicopter, according to Lt. Drew Cavanagh of the state forest rangers who assisted in the search. The body was recovered by divers at 3:30 p.m., he said.

The cause of Mrs. Klock's death is pending an autopsy and investigation by state police.
