MASSENA — Irene E. Roberts, 86, longtime resident of 21 Kennedy Court, died Thursday at Epsom Healthcare Center, Epsom, N.H., where she had lived for the last year.

She was a homemaker.

Born Sept. 23, 1921, in Mooers, daughter of Alfred J. and Hazel Rushlow Babbie, she graduated from St. Mary's Academy, Champlain.

She married Donald Roberts on Oct. 17, 1943, in Champlain. The couple moved from Champlain to Massena in July 1956, after his promotion to immigration inspector in Rooseveltown. Mr. Roberts died in 1999.

Mrs. Roberts was a communicant of St. Mary's Church.

Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Donald and Patricia, Chichester, N.H., and Kent, and his partner, Joseph Samoyedna, Brooklyn; a daughter and her husband, Lynn and Howard Bastedo, Gray, Tenn.; two granddaughters, two great-grandsons, four siblings and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Champlain.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Phillips Memorial Home.
