St. Lawrence beats Rensselaer in semis
MEN'S LACROSSE: No. 1 Saints to face Union for championship in Liberty League tourney

CANTON — Top-seeded St. Lawrence scored eight goals in the third quarter as part of a convincing 15-6 win over No. 4 Rensselaer in the Liberty League men's lacrosse semifinals on Friday.

Ben Prime led the way with three goals for St. Lawrence (10-2), while Derek Hansen and Rob Kopp supplied two goals each. The Saints will host Union in the Liberty League championship game at noon Sunday.

Devin Arnold paced RPI (9-6) with two goals and one assist.

UNION 8, CLARKSON 7

Scott Garibaldi scored with just 40.3 seconds left in regulation at Potsdam to break the tie and send No. 3 Union past the second-seeded Golden Knights and on to the Liberty League championship.

Garibaldi finished with three goals for Union (12-3).

Greg Gibbons and Erik Hilfinger led Clarkson (9-4) with two goals each.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

HAMILTON 19, ST. LAWRENCE 4

No. 1 Hamilton cruised to a Liberty League semifinal win over the Saints thanks to five goals and three assists from Kaillie Briscoe, at Clinton.Liz Rave and Audrey Nebergall each supplied three goals for Hamilton (16-1).

Amanda Forbes paced No. 4 St. Lawrence (11-5) with two goals and one assist.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

ST. LAWRENCE 5, SUNY NEW PALTZ 0

The Saints (15-4) swept New Paltz in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament at Williamstown, Mass. SLU will face host Williams at 9 a.m. today in round two.

Teresa Rodriguez was part of a winning doubles team and also won a singles match for St. Lawrence.

SLU MEN TAKE RELAY

The St. Lawrence team of David Lloyd, Terrance Fox, Erik Donohoe and Mark Burnham turned in a school and New York State Collegiate Track Conference record time of 7 minutes, 31.69 seconds to capture the 4x800 relay at Friday's day one of the outdoor championships at Rochester.

Other scoring performances by SLU, which was in fifth place, included a third in the long jump by Nick Perzanoski and seventh in the 1,000 by Ben Greenberg.

The Saints women are in third place after day one, highlighted by third-place finishes from Alyssa Pirinelli in the hammer and the 4x800 relay team of Meghan Moore, Elizabeth Atwood, Chelsea McKenzie and Alexis Nuffer.
