BROWNVILLE — Mr. and Mrs. Billy C. Sargent, Brownville, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary April 17 with family.
Mr. Sargent, son of the late Alfred and Adelaide Williams Sargent, and Leona Morrissey, daughter of the late Fred and Della Walker Morrissey, were married April 17, 1948, at Asbury Methodist Church, Watertown, with the late Rev. George H. McClung officiating.
Mr. Sargent attended Perch River School and graduated from Dexter High School in 1940. He worked at the New York Air Brake Co. gun mount department in Watertown before enlisting in the Army Air Forces, serving during World War II. He worked at Cody Machine Shop, Harley Machine Shop, Baileys Oil and Gas Service, all in Watertown, and retired in 1982 from New York Air Brake after 31 years of service.
Mrs. Sargent attended Otter Creek School and graduated in 1942 from General Martin High School in Glenfield and in 1948 from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Watertown. She worked in the former Mercy Hospital's operating room, retiring in 1981 after 34 years of service.
The couple has resided in Brownville for the past 38 years, spent 55 summers on Lake Ontario in the Sherwin Bay area and after retirement spent 22 winters in Titusville and New Smyrna Beach, Fla.
They have a daughter and a son-in-law, Pamela and John Lucidi, Dexter, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A daughter, Della Adelaide, died at birth.
