Donnelly, Leonard produce no-hitters
HEUVELTON SWEEP: Bulldogs pitchers victimize Morristown in doubleheader

HEUVELTON — Heuvelton's Casey Donnelly hurled a no-hitter in the first game of Northern Athletic Conference West Division softball doubleheader against Morristown. Not to be outdone, Kara Leonard took the mound in game two and fired a 15-strikeout no-hitter of her own for the Bulldogs.

Both games ended via the 10-run rule with Heuvelton taking the first 15-0 in five innings and the second 10-0 in six. Donnelly fanned 12 batters in her no-hitter, and Leonard walked one batter in the fifth inning to break up the perfect game.

Heather Johnson collected three RBIs over the two games to lead the Bulldogs (5-3, 4-2).

The Green Rockets fell to 1-6,1-5.

HARRISVILLE 12, CLIFTON-FINE 3

Katie French struck out nine and allowed only five hits in a complete-game West Division win for the Pirates over the Eagles in Harrisville.

The Pirates scored nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, and Leah Malbeuf supplied two hits, including a triple, and tallied three RBIs. Megan Berwald smacked a three-run home run for Harrisville (2-3).

Chelsea Schoff connected for two hits and one RBI to lead Clifton-Fine (0-5).

HERMON-DEKALB 16,

PARISHVILLE-HOPKINTON 7

Natasha Sayer went 3-for-5 with an RBI and also pitched a complete game for a West Division win over the Panthers in Parishville.

Whitney Stiles added three hits and four runs for Hermon-DeKalb (4-4, 4-2).

Jodie Foster smacked two triples and scored twice for Parishville-Hopkinton (1-8, 1-7). Shannon Gibson was 3-for-3 and had a double and two RBIs for the Panthers.

MALONE 2, CANTON 1

Erica Johnson scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning of a West Division game as the Huskies beat the Golden Bears in Malone.

Haley Poupore was 2-for-2 with an RBI for Malone (6-0).

Canton lost its first NAC game of the season despite Kacie Wentworth striking out seven and allowing just three hits. Wentworth also scored for the Golden Bears (7-1, 4-1).

SANDY CREEK 5-10, BEAVER RIVER 0-0

Lyndsay Rowell tossed a pair of one-hitters to help the Comets sweep a Frontier League "C" Division doubleheader at Sandy Creek.

Mercedes LaVeck went 2-for-2 with a double in game one, while Courtney Claflin drove in two runs.

Rowell had two hits in game two, and added a double and two RBIs. Karlie DeCarolis drove in three runs with two hits for Sandy Creek (9-0).

Emily Zehr provided both hits — one in each game — for the Beavers (3-6, 1-6).

BELLEVILLE HENDERSON 4-12,

LYME 0-2

Karlye Eastman and Judith Anderson led the Panthers to a Frontier League "D" Division doubleheader sweep over Lyme at Belleville.

In game one, Eastman recorded an RBI. Brittany Grimshaw also contributed a double. In game two, Eastman hit a triple and Anderson added a double.

GIRLS LACROSSE

CARTHAGE 19, WATERTOWN 6

Katie Ferris capped a week of explosive scoring to lead Carthage past visiting Watertown in a Frontier League game.

Ferris generated 10 goals and two assists to help the Comets hand Watertown its first loss of the season. The sophomore attacker finished the week with 23 goals and six assists, and is also the league leader in goals scored with 55.

"She's just such a good player," Carthage coach Sue Gallagher said of her team's top goal producer. "She knows how to cut, how to get open to get the ball, and she knows how to finish."

Carthage (7-3, 5-0) took control early and led 12-3 at halftime.

Katherine DeRonda provided four goals and five assists, and Alaina Piroli scored three times.

But Gallagher said the key to the victory was her team's strong performance on defense. The Comets were just the second team this spring to limit the Cyclones' offense, which averaged 14.9 goals per game before Friday, to single-digit scoring.

"Watertown is a pretty high-scoring team, but we definitely did a good job," Gallagher said. "Particularly Colleen DeRonda, Joelle Percy, and Olivia Roggie."

Taylor Hughes led Watertown (10-1, 4-1) with four goals.

CANTON 14, MASSENA 2

Katherine Sweeney scored three goals and assisted on four others to lead the Golden Bears past the Red Raiders in a Northern Athletic Conference game in Massena.

Christy Foster added four goals and two assists for Canton (5-2, 4-0).

Anna Riley and Erin Jacobs scored for Massena (0-6, 0-5).

Emily Bush scored seven goals and assisted on two others to help lift the Bulldogs past the Blue Devils in NAC action at Heuvelton.

Ellyssa Tennant also scored four goals for Heuvelton (4-4, 4-1).

Chelsea Martin led Ogdensburg Free Academy (3-4, 3-2) with three goals, and Molly Morrow supplied two for the Blue Devils.

POTSDAM 11, SARANAC LAKE 9

Natali Carrama netted four goals to lead the Sandstoners past the Red Storm in an NAC game at SUNY Potsdam.

Ginett Cornett supplied three goals for Potsdam (2-4). Abbie Adams stopped 11 shots.

Hillary Pond led the way for Saranac Lake with five goals. Shannon Muldowney added two goals, and Alex Grossman made 13 saves for the Red Storm (1-3).

BOYS LACROSSE

SOUTH JEFFERSON 15,

UTICA NOTRE DAME 3

Hunter VanHorn tallied four goals, while Marc Piche tacked on three goals and four assists for the Spartans in a nonleague triumph at Adams.

Mike Virga made 10 saves, and Ethan Duffy had two goals and two assists for South Jefferson (5-5).

Kevin Fox scored twice for Notre Dame.

HUSKIES WIN PAIR

Ashley Lamica and Amanda Gadway each picked up a pair of individual wins to lead Malone (4-0) to a 226-46 win over Clifton-Fine and a 1972/3-1191/3 win over host Tupper Lake in an NAC double-dual meet. The Lumberjacks also picked up a win over Clifton-Fine (0-4), but the score was unavailable.

Lamica won the 1,500 and 3,000 for the Huskies, and Gadway picked up wins in the shot put and discus. Kyla Kenyon led Tupper Lake (3-1) with wins in the 100 and 200.

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

PETTY WINS AT CHITTENANGO

Gerald Petty secured first place in the shot put and placed second in the discus event for Watertown at the Chittenango Invitational.

Kevin Machia (110 hurdles, 400 hurdles) added two third-place finishes, while Anthony Johnson took third in the long jump for Watertown.

SPARTANS PLACE 14TH

The team of Greg Burns, Curtis Wilson, Nathan Traynor and Ryan Sanders placed third for South Jefferson in the distance medley relay event of the New Hartford Invitational.

The Spartans finished 14th in the team standings, followed by South Lewis (16th), Indian River (20th) and Beaver River (23rd).

Liverpool placed first with 91 points.

GIRLS LACROSSE: Comets stay unbeaten

in Frontier League, give Cyclones 1st loss

CARTHAGE — Katie Ferris capped a week of explosive scoring to lead Carthage past visiting Watertown, 19-6, in a Frontier League girls lacrosse game Friday.

Ferris generated 10 goals and two assists to help the Comets hand Watertown its first loss of the season. The sophomore attacker finished the week with 23 goals and six assists, and is also the league leader in goals scored with 55.
