DEGRASSE — John J. Riott, 66, Degrasse, died Friday at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam, where he was under the care of his wife, Sylvia, and Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.

Mr. Riott was an educator in the New Castle (Pa.) School District until retiring in 1999.

Born April 2, 1942, in Butler, Pa., son of Joseph J. and Virginia M. Sherman Riott, he served in the Marine Corps from 1960 to 1964.

He married Sylvia E. Dunn on Jan. 28, 2006. The couple moved to Degrasse in 2005. A previous marriage ended in divorce.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, John J. II, and a daughter, Christina T. Riott, both of New Castle; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Carol A. Blasko and Pamela S. and John Rudiak, all of Butler, and several nieces and nephews.

A sister, Juanita J. Rensel, died before him.

There will be no funeral. The body will be cremated.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at French Funeral Home, Edwards.
