Leffler's offense propels Malone
SUNDAY, MAY 4, 2008

MALONE — Nick Leffler went 5-for-5, including two triples, and drove in nine runs in the second game of a nonleague baseball doubleheader to lead Malone to a 21-1 win over Brushton-Moira, completing a sweep Saturday.

The Huskies (5-3) picked up a 4-1 win in the opener.

Zach Leffler had two hits for Malone in the first game, and Justin Supernault added two hits for the Panthers (2-2). Brad Fleury went 3-for-4 for Malone in game two, and Justin Poirier hit a home run for the Panthers in the second game.

SACKETS HARBOR 11,

HERMON-DEKALB 2

Nathan Kolb had three hits to lead the host Patriots past Hermon-DeKalb in a nonleague game.

Jake Simmons added two hits for Sackets Harbor (5-2).

Tyler Amo had two hits for Hermon-DeKalb (4-3).

OGDENSBURG FREE ACADEMY 9,

CANTON 3

Andy Ladouceur had three hits, including a double, and Tylor Stevenson homered, singled and drove in three runs to lead the Blue Devils (4-1) past Canton in a Northern Athletic Conference Central Division game in Ogdensburg.

James Chase went 3-for-4, including a home run, for the Golden Bears (2-3 overall, 2-2 league).

BEAVER RIVER 18-11,

SANDY CREEK 2-2

The Beavers pounded out 26 hits in two games and rolled to a pair of five-inning Frontier League "C'' Division wins over the Comets at Sandy Creek.

In the opener, Dustin Tooker went 3-for-3, had a home run and two doubles, and drove in four runs for Beaver River (9-1, 7-1). Scott Scanlon finished 3-for-5, Jay Augustyn was 3-for-4, and Marcus Roggie went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Three Beaver pitchers combined on a two-hitter.

Scanlon and Augustyn both went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the second game. Roggie also went 2-for-3, while Jared Martin hurled the victory.

Taylor Ouderkirk had two hits for Sandy Creek (5-5) in the second game.

THOUSAND ISLANDS 1-2,

SOUTH LEWIS 0-16

South Lewis recorded 13 hits in game two to salvage a "C" Division split at Turin.

Mike Cobb had two hits, including a grand slam, while Harry Campbell finished 4-for-4, drove in two runs and scored four runs for the Falcons (6-6, 6-3) in the second five-inning game.

In game one, Joe Power of Thousand Islands scored in the first inning. Power reached on an infield hit, stole second and was driven in by Allen Dwyer. Sam Scudera pitched a three-hit shutout for the Vikings (6-4, 5-3).

Dwyer added another run-scoring single in game two for Thousand Islands (6-4, 5-3).

Cobb also had two hits for South Lewis in the opener.

SOUTH JEFFERSON 8-8,

ALTMAR-PARISH-WILLIAMSTOWN 2-0

Angelo Dileonardo contributed two hits and drove in three runs in the opener to spark the Spartans to a "B" Division sweep of the Rebels in Adams.

Ben Anaya supplied two hits in game one for South Jefferson (4-5, 3-4), and Jamieson Crast threw a four-hitter. Anaya produced a two-run triple in the second game, and Joe Sabel chipped in two hits.

Justin Bristol recorded two hits in the first game, and David Stanton smacked a triple in the second matchup for the Rebels (1-8, 0-7).

LOWVILLE 6-17, GENERAL BROWN 4-11

Zach Haenlin contributed four hits and four RBIs in the Red Raiders' sweep of the Lions in a "B" Division doubleheader in Lowville.

Haenlin drove in the winning run in the opener with a single for Lowville (10-3, 6-1). Jake Roes supplied four hits and four RBIs in the doubleheader.

Tanner Pitkin and Ken Cote each registered four hits for General Brown (3-9, 1-7), and Pitkin recorded two RBIs.

BOYS LACROSSE

GENERAL BROWN 12, HEUVELTON 8

Jared Flath scored five goals to pace the Lions to a nonleague win over the Bulldogs in Heuvelton.

Eric Munk supplied three goals and one assist for General Brown (6-6). Kyle Hart contributed two goals and an assist for the Lions, who scored five goals in the third quarter to take an 11-6 lead.

Francis Sharpe scored five goals for Heuvelton (1-9), and Tom Blackburn made 10 saves.

GIRLS LACROSSE

GENERAL BROWN 16, HEUVELTON 5

Samantha Roukous scored seven goals to lead the Lions to a nonleague victory over the Bulldogs in Heuvelton.

Nichole Eamer added four goals, and Soo Kim made 12 saves for the Lions (4-4).

Emily Bush paced Heuvelton (4-5) with two goals.

SOUTH JEFFERSON 18, MASSENA 1

Alyssa Scordo and Kristina Fahsel each provided three goals and four assists as the Spartans routed the Red Raiders in a nonleague game at Massena.

Maria Behling contributed four goals and two assists for South Jefferson (5-4), while Whitney Perry also scored four goals.

Nicole Johnson scored for Massena (0-7).
