Lassial, Duff aid in SLU twin wins
OVER RIVAL CLARKSON: St. Lawrence captures third place in conference heading into playoffs

CANTON — Ogdensburg's Troy Lassial threw a three-hitter to lead the St. Lawrence University baseball team to a 3-1 win over Clarkson in game 1 of a Liberty League doubleheader Sunday.

Ryan Duff singled in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth of game 2 to give the Saints an 8-7 win and a sweep.

SLU (19-16 overall, 12-9 Liberty) moved ahead of Clarkson and into third place with the sweep. Clarkson (17-18, 9-11) finished fourth. Both teams will participate in the Liberty League playoffs next weekend in Rochester.

Lassial finished with seven strikeouts in the opener for the Saints. Tim Harris and Andrew Ford each had three hits for SLU in game 2, while former Immaculate Heart Central player Christian Spicer added two hits.

Matt Curry had four hits to lead Clarkson in game two. Cale Giroux added three hits andMike Bresett and Sean Griffin each picked up two hits.

JEFFERSON CC 9-2,

HUDSON VALLEY CC 8-5

The Cannoneers needed to sweep both games of a Region 3 doubleheader at Troy to qualify for the regional tournament.

They took care of business in the first game, winning 9-8 in eight innings. But host Hudson Valley scored five runs in the sixth of the second game,

Luke Meyer had four hits and Ron Sellers hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs in the first game for JCC (17-20, 15-15). Josh Biolsi led off the JCC eighth with a single, stole second and came home on a Dustin Francis sacrifice fly. The winning run eventually scored on an error.

Luis Castillo, who earned the victory with three innings of relief , also had two hits.

Castillo and Adam Houmiel drove in the Jefferson runs in the nightcap.

SOFTBALL

JEFFERSON CC 3-4, ERIE CC 2-12

Emily Patterson's two-run double in the fifth inning of game 1 led the Cannoneers to a split of a doubleheader at Williamsville.

Stacey Peterson went 3-for-3 with a triple, while Holly McHale was 2-for-3 with a double for JCC in the loss.

The Cannoneers (22-12, 18-8) drew the No. 7 seed for the Region 3 tournament, and will play at No. 2 Corning CC in a first round game at 4 p.m. Tuesday
