Wanakena Ranger School will graduate 41

WANAKENA — The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry Ranger School will present associate in applied science degrees to 41 students at its May 17 graduation.

The Ranger School will present 28 degrees in forest technology and 13 in land surveying technology.

Commencement speakers include Neil Murphy, Jr., president of SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry; Bruce Bongarten, provost of SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry; Christopher Westbrook, director of the Ranger School, and Michael Koterba, president of the Class of 2008.

Commencement will begin at 11 a.m. in the Clifton-Fine Central School auditorium, Star Lake. Several awards will be presented to outstanding students, and certificates will be given to the valedictorian and salutatorian. There will be an open house from 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. at the Ranger School.

Twelve graduates are from the north country: Brent Bailey, Parishville; Aaron Barrigar, Winthrop; Patrick Boyde, Watertown; Patrick Kelly, Rensselaer Falls; Stephen Jones, Lisbon; Samuel Kennedy, Theresa; James Knouse, Potsdam; Kyle LaBarge and Alex McNamara, Tupper Lake; Ryan Planty, Castorland; Jake Ritz, Harrisville, and Adam Youngs, Boonville.

Students attend the Ranger School as college sophomores and earn 48 credit hours during two semesters at the 2,800-acre campus in Wanakena.
