Three South Jeff students
arrested on drug charges
ADAMS — State police arrested three South Jefferson High School students Tuesday on drug charges.
More arrests may be forthcoming.
Troopers charged a 15-year-old male student, whose name was not released due to his age, with criminal sale of a controlled substance on school grounds, a felony.
He is accused of selling oxycodone pills to a fellow student.
Two students were charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance: Wallace H. Gibbs, 17, of 35 Wardwell St., and Jerry C. Lambert, 16, of 5 S. Park St.
Both youths are to answer the charges in Adams Town Court.
The investigation is being conducted by Trooper Jeffrey Stevenson, the district's school resource officer, with assistance from the state police in Watertown.
Man accused of violating
woman's protection order
City police charged Steven M. Newman, 23, of 619 New York Ave., with second-degree criminal contempt Thursday.
He is accused of leaving a voice mail message Tuesday on the cell phone of Amy N. Hayward, Watertown, who has an active order of protection against him.
Mr. Newman is to answer the charge in City Court.
Police charge two people
with writing bad checks
■ Christopher G. Kelley, 20, of 42 Little York Road, Gouverneur, was charged Thursday by village police with issuing a bad check for $86.08 to Save-a-Lot supermarket on Feb. 14. He was arraigned in Gouverneur Town Court and was released pending further court action.
■ Talfourd T. Wynne II, 25, of 56 Cornwall St., Alexandria Bay, was charged by state police with issuing a bad check Thursday.
He is accused of writing a check for $60 to McGinny's Mobil, Theresa, without having sufficient funds to cover the amount.
Mr. Wynne is to answer the charge in Theresa Town Court.
Great Bend man charged
with possessing handgun
GOUVERNEUR — A Jefferson County man was jailed Thursday after being charged by village police with possessing a handgun without a permit.
John W. Campbell, 22, of 24878 Champion St., Great Bend, was charged at 12:30 p.m. with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, police said. He was found in possession of a .45 caliber handgun which he is not allowed to possess because he has a criminal background and no pistol permit, they said. He was arraigned in Town Court and was ordered held in St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, in lieu of $2,500 bail or a $5,000 bond pending further court action.
Teen accused of sending
harassing e-mail to man
CARTHAGE — State police charged Hilary C. Rhone, 18, of 32191 Wilton Road, Lot 1, with aggravated harassment Thursday.
She is accused of threatening to physically harm her ex-boyfriend in a May 2 e-mail. Troopers did not provide the man's name.
Miss Rhone is to answer the charge in LeRay Town Court.
