CARTHAGE — Carthage is closing in on its 15th Frontier League boys lacrosse title in 20 seasons of play.
The Comets clinched at least a tie for the 2008 crown Thursday night with a 14-6 win over second-place Watertown. Ben Koster scored four goals as the Comets (13-1 overall, 9-0 league) took a 6-4 halftime lead then outscored the Cyclones (10-3, 6-3) by 5-1 in the fourth quarter.
Thomas Grimm contributed four goals and four assists, while Robert Grimm and Zach Mulvaney each finished with two goals and three assists. Defenseman Pat Gibbons also had a big game of front of goalie Kyle Gaebel, who made nine saves.
Brenden Mance scored twice for Watertown.
■ Robert Grimm will be Carthage's first representative in the Under Armor Senior Showcase All-American boys lacrosse game later this spring.

Jared Flath scored an unassisted goal — his sixth of the game — with just over a minute and a half to play in sudden-victory overtime to give the Lions a Frontier League victory at Dexter.
Zac VanBrocklin added three goals and an assist, and Robert Thomas had two goals and four assists for General Brown (6-7, 4-5).
Stephen Martin led Lowville (5-7, 3-4) with four goals, and Brandon Marshall scored three times.

The host Warriors earned their first league win of the season as Corey Brown scored five goals and added two assists at Philadelphia.
Jeremy Aiken, Steve Bush and Craig Norsworthy each scored two goals for Indian River (2-10, 1-8), and goalie David Hicks made 11 saves. David Spaulding also won 14 of 23 faceoffs.
Jake Smith paced the Spartans (5-6, 2-6) with three goals, while Justin Townsend scored twice.
CANTON 16, ST. LAWRENCE 11
David Pynchon tallied six points on five goals and an assist for the Golden Bears in a Northern Athletic Conference game at Brasher Falls.
Sam Bradman added four goals and an assist, while Brendan Bolis notched three goals for Canton (8-3, 6-2).
Kevin Logan paced St. Lawrence (6-5, 5-5) with five goals. Connor McCuin made 17 saves for the Larries.
SALMON RIVER 23, HEUVELTON 14
The Shamrocks scored nine goals in the fourth quarter, and Miles Thompson scored eight goals in an NAC matchup at Fort Convington.
Ty Thompson added four goals, while Corey Thompson supplied three goals for Salmon River (9-0).
Francis Sharp paced Heuvelton (1-11, 1-8) with four goals. Pat Dillingham tallied one goal and three assists for the Bulldogs.
POTSDAM 15, COLTON-PIERREPONT 2
Peter Tardelli scored three goals to lead the Sandstoners past the Colts in an NAC game at Colton.
Alex Kuno supplied two goals and one assist, and TJ Rimmer added two goals for Potsdam (8-2, 7-1).
Jake Regan and Scott White scored one goal each for Colton-Pierrepont (0-8).

Maia Czarnecki scored six goals to lead the host Buccaneers (3-10) to a nonleague win over the Cavaliers at Oswego.
