CANTON — A long-running investigation into the actions of a former Ogdensburg city councilor who was charged last fall with forging a receipt during a student council fundraiser at Ogdensburg Free Academy is expected to come to a head Monday in St. Lawrence County Court.
Kresten F. Ericksen is expected to plead guilty to a single forgery count in satisfaction of all charges stemming from the investigation. It began after officials of World Wrestling Entertainment complained they had received about $15,000 less than expected after staging the second of two shows at the school's Edgar A. Newell Golden Dome in July 2006.
"We are prepared to go forward Monday," said attorney Gary W. Miles, Gouverneur, who represents Mr. Ericksen.
Mr. Miles declined to outline the tentative plea agreement.
"I am not going to say anything about it until we get in there and get it done," Mr. Miles said.
District Attorney Nicole M. Duvé also declined to speak about the specifics of the plea agreement.
"There are still some things that could cause it to be derailed on Monday. It is still up in the air. There are some strings attached," Ms. Duvé said.
Employed as dome director since 1985, Mr. Ericksen was appointed adviser to the student council in 2003. He was placed on paid administrative leave from his $42,455 a year job shortly after being charged by state police in September with second-degree forgery, a felony. He was accused of forging a receipt for $8,000 in school advance money. Some of the cash was used by WWE to pay travel and other expenses of its performers before the June show.
A school district audit found $6,080 in proceeds from the sale of tickets at the June show unaccounted for, but because of poor bookkeeping, neither it nor state police investigators were able pinpoint where the money went. A state audit is now under way.
Attempts to reach Mr. Ericksen were not successful.
