Sanders helps Spartans to third place
SOUTH JEFFERSON INVITATIONAL: Rome Free Academy takes first in track and field event

ADAMS CENTER — Ryan Sanders of South Jefferson captured the 3,200-meter run to highlight the local finishers Saturday in the South Jefferson track and field invitational.

Sanders finished in 9 minutes, 52.3 seconds to help the host Spartans to a third-place team (70 points) finish behind winner Rome Free Academy (144) and Cicero-North Syracuse (126).

South Jefferson's Curtis Wilson placed second in the 400 and third in the 200, Kyle Hathaway was second in the 800 and Justin Ramey took second in the 400 hurdles, and Nathan Traynor took third in the 1,600.

Indian River's Curtis Dukes was second in the 100 meters, and anchored the Indian River 400 relay, which also included Fred Williams, Corey Hall, Don Polite, to a second-place finish. Hall also took second in the triple jump, and third in the long jump and high jump for the Warriors, while George DeVita added a third in the 800.

Meet records were set by the Baldwinsville distance medley relay (10:50.6), the Baldwinsville 3,200 relay (8:20.6) and the Rome Free 400 relay (43.5). Andy Kahl of C-NS was a double winner in the 400 and high jump, Shawn Carter of RFA took the 100 and the triple jump, and Anthony DeJean from RFA doubled in the 200 and the long jump.

FREDERICKS LEADS OFA TO TITLE

Jake Fredericks won three events and finished second in another to lead OFA to the team title at the Section 10 Invitational in Madrid. The Blue Devils finished with 136 points. Norwood-Norfolk was second with 117 and Malone was third with 110.

Fredericks picked up wins in the 400 hurdles, 400 and triple jump and was second in the 110 hurdles. C.J. Bracy added wins in the long jump and high jump for OFA and Spencer Crawford placed first in the penathlon.

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

MALONE CLAIMS TITLE

Led by five individual champions Malone picked up the team title at the Section 10 Invitational in Madrid.

The Huskies earned 150 points and Gouverneur was second with 95 with Tupper Lake finishing third with 94.

Malone's individual winners included: Maggie Dievendorf (100 hurdles), Kaylie Lamica (400 hurdles), Jessica Farmer (200), Amanda Gadway (shot put) and Kate Matthews (pentathlon).

WARRIORS PLACE SECOND

Geneen Dore won the 100 dash and placed fourth in the 200 as Indian River finished second at the Batavia Invitational.

Batavia won the even with 130 1/2 points. The Warriors scored 93, followed by Canandaigua (85 1/2), Alexander (74 1/2) and Pittsford Sutherland (59).

Katie McCrum was fastest in the 1,500 run and Indian River's 400 relay took first place.

BOYS TENNIS

ALEXANDRIA, LOWVILLE TIE

Alexandria and Lowville finished tied with 33 points each at the Frontier League boys tennis tournament at Watertown High School.

For Alexandria, Shawn Martin won at second singles over Lowville's Dan Cannan, and Wataru Yamazaki and Ethan Dunham captured the title at second doubles by beating Andrew Doner and Thomas McCarty from Carthage.

The only Lowville winner was Noah Beckstead and James Anderson at first doubles over Ethan Thomson and Riley Thomson from Alexandria.

An Nguyen of Immaculate Heart Central took the first singles crown over Brandon Bryant of Lowville. And Watertown's Spencer McCreary captured the third singles title by defeating Nathan Kelly of Lowville.

BOYS LACROSSE

WATERTOWN 11, UNION-ENDICOTT 5

Brett McAuliffe led the attack with eight goals and three assists as the host Cyclones raced to a 13-3 halftime win in a nonleague game.

Travis McGraw added two goals and five assists for Watertown (11-3), while Pat Commeret contributed two goals and one assist. Goalie Wilson Mukrdechian made 11 saves.

LOWVILLE 11, ST. LAWRENCE 6

Brandon Marshall scored five goals as the Red Raiders beat the Larries in a nonleague game at Lowville.

Matt Graveley contributed three goals and one assist for Lowville (6-6), while Stephen Martin had two goals and two assists and Corey Ryan six assists.

Cody Kilcoyne and Brady Helmer led SLC (6-6) with two goals and one assist apiece.

SOUTH JEFFERSON 15, MASSENA 7

Jake Smith buried a game-best five goals and chipped in an assist as the Spartans rolled to a nonleague victory over the Red Raiders in Massena.

Marc Piche contributed four goals and four assists for South Jefferson (6-7). Mike Virga registered 20 saves.

Josh Centrella and Matt Thompson each scored twice for Massena (2-8).

GIRLS LACROSSE

GENERAL BROWN 6, MANLIUS-PEBBLE HILL 5

Nichole Eamer and Jenna Flath each scored two goals as the Lions took third place at the South Jefferson Tournament.

Eamer was named the General Brown MVP. Goalie Soo Kim made 14 saves for the Lions.

ONONDAGA 12, IHC 11

The host Cavaliers (5-7) erased a six-goal halftime deficit, but the Tigers hung on for a nonleague victory.

Tara Gervera led Immaculate Heart Central (5-7) with five points on two goals and three assists. Aimee Plante supplied three goals and an assist, and Elysa Doldo also scored three times.

WATERTOWN 16, MEXICO 5

Taylor Nims scored six goals and added an assist as the Cyclones beat the visiting Tigers in a nonleague game.

Taylor Hughes also scored four goals for Watertown (12-1).

Stevie Lombardoni led Mexico with two goals.
