The grass carp, commonly reaching weights of more than 25 pounds, is one of the largest members of the minnow family and has the ability to control a wide variety of aquatic plant species, according to an agency press release. It feeds strictly by grazing on aquatic vegetation.
The sterile triploid grass carp weigh about a half pound. Plant control with triploid grass carp is most successful when the fish are stocked just as plants begin growing in the pond.
