Rooseveltown man accused of having 23 pounds of pot
TUESDAY, MAY 13, 2008

THERESA — A Franklin County man was charged Monday by state police with allegedly having 23 pounds of marijuana in his vehicle.

Robert J. McDonald, 24, Rooseveltown, was charged with first-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a felony. Police said his vehicle was stopped on Route 37 in the town of Theresa for having excessive tint on its windows.

Police said he told them he was on his way to Myrtle Beach, S.C., to attend "golf college." A K-9 unit doing a "free air" sniff alerted troopers to the possible presence of drugs in the vehicle's trunk. Mr. McDonald consented to a search of the trunk, where troopers said they found the high-grade hydroponic marijuana hidden.

He was arraigned in LeRay Town Court and sent to jail at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building on $2,500 bail.
