Devils gain on Cougars
DIVISION TIGHTENS: Measheaw, Kenyon help Hammond to win

RUSSELL — Hammond cut Edwards-Knox's lead in the Northern Athletic Conference West Division to one game with a 6-4 softball win over the Cougars on Tuesday.

The Red Devils took an early 5-0 lead and Jessica Measheaw pitched well enough to hold on and had Edwards-Knox its first division loss this season. Brittany Kenyon supplied a home run for Hammond (7-2 overall).

Emily Fuller smacked a triple and a single for Edwards-Knox (10-3, 9-1 division).

ST. REGIS FALLS 12,

COLTON-PIERREPONT 8

The Saints earned their second win of the season behind a seven-run second inning in an East Division game in Colton.

Brittni Fountain picked up the win and struck out four batters. Krista Lucas supplied two hits for St. Regis Falls (2-7).

Andi Lynn Remington and Emily Watson each went 2-for-4 for the Colts (4-6).

SALMON RIVER 18,

MADRID-WADDINGTON 1

Julie Smoke had a career day, driving in six runs on a 4-for-4 outing as the Shamrocks pounded the Yellow Jackets in an East Division game in Fort Covington.

Brittany Avery also collected four hits, including a double, for Salmon River (12-1, 10-1).

ST. LAWRENCE 7, CHATEAUGAY 2

Amanda Locke blasted a home run in the fifth inning and had two RBIs in an East Division win for the Larries in Chateaugay.

Sarah Thayer earned the victories and helped herself with two RBIs for St. Lawrence (13-1, 10-0).

Amber Swanston smacked a two-run home run for Chateaugay (4-6).

CANTON 16, TUPPER LAKE 0

Kacie Wentworth struck out eight batters and only gave up one hit in a complete game Central Division shutout of the Lumberjacks in Tupper Lake.

Liz Tvorak singled in the third for the only hit for Tupper Lake (0-10).

Wentworth went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI for the Golden Bears (14-1, 8-1).

OFA 14, GOUVERNEUR 2

Katie Nelson fanned 16 batters and surrendered just four hits in a dominating Central Division win in Gouverneur.

Nelson hit a three-run home run for the Blue Devils (6-4).

Jenna Weaver had two hits for Gouverneur (3-7, 3-6).

MASSENA 8, NORWOOD-NORFOLK 2

Sierra Streeter struck out nine and allowed one hit in a Central Division win for host Massena.

Janelle Bradish had a two-RBI double to lead the offense for the Red Raiders (7-7, 6-4).

Kailey Martens smacked an RBI double for the only hit for Norwood-Norfolk (6-8, 3-5).

MALONE 6, POTSDAM 0

The Huskies remained undefeated in the Central Division thanks to a nine-strikeout performance from pitcher Erica Johnson in Malone.

Ashley Marshall went 2-for-3 with a double, and Emily Sharlow added a double and two RBIs for Malone (12-0, 10-0).

Potsdam (4-8, 2-7) was led by Gwenn Lillie's two singles.
