POTSDAM — Clarkson University's board of trustees has elected two new alumni members.
Richard R. Griffith, president and chairman of the board of Sturges Manufacturing Co., Utica, will serve on the institutional advancement committee, and Jason Currie, managing director of Bear Stearns Asset Management, Toronto, will serve on the investment committee.
Mr. Griffith graduated from Clarkson in 1969 with a bachelor's degree in industrial distribution, and went on to join Sturges Manufacturing as a manufacturing engineer in 1971. From 1979 to 1992, he served as vice president of operations before being appointed president in 1992. He earned his master's degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, in 1985.
He has been an active Clarkson Alumni Association volunteer and is a past member of the Alumni National Executive Council and served as fund and roundtable chairman. He received the university's highest alumni honor, the Golden Knight Award, in 2004.
Mr. Griffith and his wife, Connie, live in Utica and are summer residents of Alexandria Bay. Their son, Tyler, graduated from Clarkson in 2001.
Mr. Currie was a goalie for Clarkson's hockey team from 1990 to 1994, posting a 44-25-10 overall record, including four shutouts. He was an Eastern College Athletic Conference All-Star and Academic All-American, and was a Hartford Whalers draft choice.
Mr. Currie received his bachelor's degree in finance from the college in 1994 and went on to earn his master's in business administration from Cornell University, Ithaca, in 1997. He worked for Deutsche Bank, CIBC World Markets and Orion Securities in Toronto before joining the private funds group of Bear Stearns.
He lives in Etobicoke, Ontario, with his wife, Victoria, and their two sons, Nicklaus and Jack.
