The Women's Ministry Team of Life Church of the Nazarene wants the greater Watertown community to live healthy lives.
The group will host its first Health and Wellness Fair today, with 32 agencies and organizations participating.
"This is an opportunity for them to offer services to people, and for the people to find out what's available," said Dr. Rachel E. Lewis, a dermatologist and consulting physician for Samaritan Keep Home.
The free event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, 535 Thompson Blvd.
Participating agencies include the Alcohol and Substance Abuse Council of Jefferson County, Carthage Area Hospital community partners, North Country Children's Clinic, Jefferson County Public Health and Hospice of Jefferson County.
Aside from the agencies handing out brochures and other information, people who attend the event will have an opportunity for professionals to check their blood pressure, check for diabetes and go through free skin cancer screenings.
There also will be a car seat safety checkpoint.
Dr. Lewis said before she helped organize the event she wasn't aware of all of the physical, behavioral and spiritual services available to better one's health.
"There are so many agencies here that offer so much, and some haven't been able to get that information out," she said.
People who attend the health fair will have an opportunity to win one of several Sam's Club gift cards or a Nintendo Wii.
"The Wii is a game system, but it actually makes people active," Dr. Lewis said. "We're hoping to draw a wide range of people for that."
