There are more millionaires than ever before, USA Today reports. In fact, there are 10.1 million people in the world today with at least $1 million in assets, not counting home values.

It appears that the rich are getting richer. The combined wealth of the world's millionaires increased to almost $41 trillion last year — a jump of 9 percent from the year before, according to Merrill Lynch and consulting firm Capgemini Group.

The average wealth of this group is $4 million.

Although the ranks of the wealthy are increasing fastest in India, China and Brazil, one in every three millionaires lives in America.

Only one in 10 lives in Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.

Some 600,000 people joined the millionaires club in 2007 — a 6 percent increase over 2006. And the numbers of the very wealthy — those with at least $30 million in assets — grew by 9 percent as well to 103,000.

Inflation and the expansion of the global economy explain the growth in wealth, economist Bill Bethune of Global Insight told the newspaper.
