EDWARDS — Adrian J. Gaumes, 31, Edwards, was arrested Tuesday night after he allegedly pulled a knife on a trooper, state police said.

Trooper Roger Riutta responded to a 6:30 p.m. report of an intoxicated and disorderly person. Police said Mr. Gaumes took out the knife and threatened to stab Trooper Riutta while he tried to question him.

Trooper Riutta used his expandable baton to disarm and subdue Mr. Gaumes, police said. Trooper Robert Klimowicz provided backup.

Mr. Gaumes was charged with menacing a police officer and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies. He also was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He was arraigned in Fowler Town Court and sent without bail to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton.

Both troopers are stationed at the Gouverneur barracks.
