Twenty children from Jefferson County will be attending the New York State Sheriffs' Association Institute's summer camp at Penn Yan in Yates County.

All expenses are paid by the state association.

A group of 10 leaves Sunday morning for a one-week session, then a second group begins its camp experience July 20. Both groups will be in the company of Donald J. Wilder, a county correction officer.

The camp, in its 32nd year of operation, is designed to provide a solid recreational program combined with the development of a sense of good citizenship, said Sheriff John P. Burns.

Leaving Sunday are students in the Indian River school district: Joshua Baker, Jason Boshane, Garrison Cuzzocrea, Wilson Damien, Andrew Davis, Jennifer Funke, Jackson George-Lavery, Michael Mashaw, Adreena Rawlins and Justin Whitmore.

Awaiting the second-week session are students from the South Jefferson, Carthage and General Brown school districts: Seth Ackley, Avery Barr, Cheyenne Bishop, Kenneth Burnham, Joshua Evans, Bethany Hurst, Dakota Lalone, Decarra Noyes, Kayla Sampson and Nichole Thompson.

Mr. Wilder lauded two faculty members, Marlene Durgin at Indian River and Steve Barker, Carthage, for going "above and beyond" in bringing children into the program.
