Area police cite suspects in DWI cases

The following people were charged by area police with driving while intoxicated:

■ James P. Knowlden, 45, of 13 Mechanic St., Canton, was charged by state police Saturday following investigation of a one-car rollover at 1:25 a.m. in which he was injured.

Mr. Knowlden was driving south on Miner Street Road near Woodmere Drive when he went off the road, striking several objects, including a utility pole. His car overturned several times, flipping through trees and bushes, and stopping after hitting a snow plow and a snowmobile trailer parked in the driveway of 401 Miner Street Road.

Mr. Knowlden was taken by Canton Rescue Squad to Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam, where he was treated and released for cuts to his arm and ear.

He refused to take a breath test. In addition to DWI, he was charged with failure to keep right and failure to submit to a breath screening test.

He is to appear in Canton Town Court.

■ Richard M. Tuper, 47, of 987 Oak Point Road, Brier Hill, was charged by state police Friday with aggravated DWI during a traffic stop on Route 37 in the town of Oswegatchie for crossing hazardous markings.

Mr. Tuper had a blood alcohol content of 0.19 percent. Aggravated DWI is charged when the BAC is 0.18 percent or more.

He is to appear in Oswegatchie Town Court.

■ Gregory A. Dunning, 24, of 82 Snell Road, South Colton, was charged by state police Saturday.

He was driving east on Hanson Road in the town of Pierrepont when he didn't slow for a curve, swerved into the westbound lane, overcorrected, lost control and left the road, struck an embankment and overturned.

Mr. Dunning left for home, where a patrol found him. The Colton Rescue Squad took him from his home to Canton-Potsdam Hospital for treatment of minor cuts to both of his lower legs.

He was also charged with failure to reduce speed, failure to keep right, and leaving the scene of an accident.

■ Florence Russell, 65, Malone, was charged by Malone village police early Saturday.

She had a BAC of 0.08 percent, the legal limit for intoxication, police said.

She is to appear in Malone Village Court.

■ Domenick V. Pallotta, 46, of 814 Academy St., Apt. 4, Watertown, was charged Saturday by city police with driving while ability impaired by drugs, first degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. Police said he struck a car on the 100 block of William Street around 1:02 a.m.

Mr. Pallotta was ordered held at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building in lieu of $1,500 cash bail.

■ Darby T. Morin, 24, of 1429 Gill St., Apt. 446C, was stopped by city police at 2:18 a.m. Saturday. He was also charged with driving without a license, failure to keep right and failure to yield right of way when entering a roadway. The soldier refused a breathalyzer and was turned over to the Provost Marshall's Office, Fort Drum.

■ Shelley A. Van Buskirk, 40, of Canada, was stopped by state police at 2:40 a.m. on Route 12, Orleans. Her BAC was 0.15 percent, troopers said. She was also charged with crossing hazard markings.
