Several charged with DWI in region

The following people were charged by area police with driving while intoxicated:

■ Wilbur P. Barnes Jr., 36, of 412 Frogtown Road, Hogansburg, was charged by state police Saturday with aggravated DWI, failure to stop at a red light, failure to keep right, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, and refusal to take a field screening test following a traffic stop on County Route 6 in the town of Oswegatchie.

His blood alcohol content was 0.18 percent, the legal limit for the more serious aggravated DWI charge.

Mr. Barnes was arraigned in Morristown Town Court and ordered held in the St. Lawrence County Jail, Canton, on $5,000 bail.

He is to appear in Oswegatchie Town Court.

■ Brandon W. Edwards, 22, of 10524 S. Riva Ridge Loop, Fort Drum, was stopped by Alexandria Bay police at 2:48 a.m. Sunday on state Route 12. Police said his BAC was 0.12 percent. He was also charged with speeding.

■ Christopher L. Kreutter, 45, of 86 Everclay Drive, Rochester, was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated after being stopped by Alexandria Bay police at 1:15 a.m. Sunday on Church Street. Police said his BAC was 0.22 percent. Mr. Kreutter was also charged with failure to signal and failure to keep right.

■ Issac W. Russel, 29, Arlington Apartments, Croghan, was stopped by Lewis County sheriff's deputies at 4:41 a.m. Saturday. Deputies said when they pulled up behind Mr. Russel, he tried to climb into the passenger seat. The vehicle missed the patrol car as it rolled backwards down Highway Avenue, deputies said, but struck a fire hydrant and a sign post.

Deputies said Mr. Russel's BAC was 0.09 percent. He was also charged with inadequate muffler, consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle, no seatbelt, unsafe start, and backing unsafely. His passenger, Charles R. Skellon, 20, Lowville, was charged with unlawful possession of fireworks.
