Some people believe that the grass-roots organization "Voters for Wind" is all about the economic benefits of putting wind turbines on their property. That may be partially true, but we are also here to promote the protection of our resources, control pollution and encourage the reduction of waste. Our mission statement in part states, "We are committed to making cleaner, healthier and affordable energy alternatives for future generations to come."
The state of our environment is a social issue. Our society has a mounting environmental deficit, and we tend to look for short-term benefits, but we are ignoring the long-term consequences created by our way of life. It is essential that we create an ecologically sustainable culture. It is up to us to conserve finite resources by efficiently using what resources we have.
We need to learn to live with less and to reduce waste. Protecting our air and water quality is imperative. We need to seek alternative energy sources by investing and utilizing wind energy, solar energy, geothermal energy, hydrogen and biofuels.
