The state Department of Transportation announced the following projects for St. Lawrence County this week:

■ Route 3 and Route 56 in Colton and Piercefield: The Tri-Lakes project is continuing road work. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers and drivers can expect minor delays.

■ Route 11 between Canton and Potsdam: Work continues on the new Wal-Mart/Tractor Supply entrance. Traffic will be one way, controlled by flaggers, and delays for drivers are expected.

■ Route 37 north of Massena, at the international border crossing: The road is now a two-lane, two-way highway with two traffic signals for vehicles coming to and from the border. The old westbound lanes and bridges are being removed and may require lane closures on the traffic circle. Lane closures will be marked with work zone signs and traffic will be controlled by flaggers. Construction is scheduled to be done in fall 2009.

■ Route 72, Parishville to Hopkinton: Paving is under way. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers; motorists may experience minor delays during the two-week project.

■ Route 3, Star Lake to Wanakena: This three-day job involves applying a fiber surface treatment to the road. There will be a 30 mph reduction in speed during construction. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers; motorists can expect delays. This segment will receive a hot mix asphalt cover later this month.

■ Route 310, Canton to Madrid: This weeklong paving project starts today. Traffic will be controlled by a pilot vehicle; motorists may experience minor delays.

■ Route 345 over Big Sucker Brook in Waddington: This bridge replacement project is just beginning. Motorists on Route 345 will be forced to detour around the Big Sucker Brook bridge. The detour, about 3.3 miles, will use Linden Street, Route 44 and Allison Road until further notice. The project is scheduled to finish in November.

■ Route 345 over Grasse River in Madrid: The bridge over the Grasse River was closed May 27 because of safety concerns. The structure previously was posted to a 15-ton weight limit and is closed to vehicular traffic pending further engineering investigations. While the structure is closed, traffic will use the following designated detour: Route 345 to County Route 14, which becomes County Route 34, to Route 310, then returning to Route 345. The detour is about 8 miles.
