ELLISBURG — A Pennsylvania man died early Saturday in a one-car crash along Route 3.

State police said Christopher M. Gneiding, 27, of Orefield, Pa., a passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene after being partially ejected through the passenger side front window.

Thomas J. Collins, 26, of Allentown, Pa., was driving west on Route 3 near South Landing Road at 2:58 a.m. when he failed to negotiate a right-hand curve, police said. His 2008 Dodge Charger left the south shoulder of the road, striking a utility pole.

The vehicle then became airborne as it crossed South Landing Road and hit several trees before overturning and coming to rest on the driver's side.

Mr. Collins was taken to Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, where he was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said. State police said charges are pending.

The Ellisburg, Adams and Belleville fire departments responded, as did South Jefferson Ambulance and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.
