CANTON — A Gouverneur teen who allegedly was under the influence of drugs when he crashed into a van, killing a father and his son, has been indicted on criminally negligent homicide charges.
Kramer R. Weaver, 18, of 537 Route 11, was indicted Monday by a St. Lawrence County grand jury on charges of two counts of criminally negligent homicide, both felonies, and a single count of failure to keep right.
He is accused of being under the influence of the muscle relaxant cyclobenzaprine when his 1999 Jeep Cherokee crossed into the opposite lane about 8 p.m. Oct. 1 on Route 11 and hit a 1988 Dodge Colt van driven by James D. Reeve, 30, Gouverneur.
Mr. Reeve and his 4-year-old son, James R., were killed in the crash. His wife, Amanda A., 27, and daughter, Angelina M., 6, survived. State police said then that Mr. Weaver didn't have a prescription for the medication.
The grand jury also returned indictments againstSonya M. King, 43, of 3476 George St., Parishville, who was charged with six counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing and a single count of third-degree welfare fraud.
She is accused of collecting $8,284.70 in temporary assistance benefits from June 1, 2005, to Feb. 16 from the St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services. She reportedly informed Social Services on six occasions that her son was living at her home when he actually wasn't.
