ADAMS CENTER — A state lending agency has started foreclosure against the corporate owners of the closed White's Quality Meats Plus at Route 11 and North Street.

The New York Business Development Corp., Albany, filed for a judgment of foreclosure Wednesday in state Supreme Court against Prarthana Corp., Mangalmay Corp. and Jay Shakti Corp., all of Monticello, according to documents filed at the Jefferson County clerk's office.

The agency claims Prarthana and Mangalmay borrowed $456,000 on May 25, 2006, using the property owned by Jay Shakti at 13306 North St. as collateral. The grocery store's equipment, accounts and inventory also were included as collateral.

According to court documents, the corporations have not made a payment toward the loan since May and as of Aug. 1 owe $427,104 plus interest, late fees, insurance charges and other fees. The agency is seeking the sale of the property to pay the debt.

Jay Shakti purchased the Adams Center store in June 2006 from Suzanne I. and Grant C. White, while Prarthana purchased a second White's location at 27117 Route 3, town of LeRay, at the same time.

The Adams Center store closed earlier this month, while the Black River store, formerly known as Barbalich's Red & White, closed over the summer.

Attempts to reach Alpesh C. Patel and Sandip Patel, who are both listed in court documents as being the president of Mangalmay Corp., were unsuccessful.
