LAKE PLACID — Hacketts will open its 11th store here in the former Tops grocery market on Saranac Avenue.

Seaway Valley Capital Corp., New York City, the parent company of Hacketts department stores, announced Friday that the store will open next spring.

The store will feature a variety of footwear, clothing, gifts and other merchandise in the 41,000-square-foot space. The lease expires in February 2016.

"Lake Placid is appealing because it has a great group of tourists and area residents that make it a year-round town," said Norman V. Garrelts, chief executive officer of Hacketts, noting it has the potential to reach a new customer base.

Seaway Valley, owner of WiseBuys, finalized the merger of the stores in November. Hacketts has 10 locations in Northern and Central New York.

Once the retrofits are completed and the new store opens, Hacketts will have stores in Canton, Sackets Harbor, Ogdensburg, Watertown, Massena, Potsdam, Gouverneur, Pulaski, Hamilton, Tupper Lake and Lake Placid.

Hacketts, formerly Patrick Hackett Hardware Co., is a 178-year-old retailer that has been a True Value hardware store but has added inventory over the past decade to convert its image into more of a department store.
