Appointed as assistant professors:Three new assistant professors have been appointed at Clarkson University.

Stephen Sauerhas been appointed assistant professor of consumer and organizational studies and will begin teaching later this fall.

Mr. Sauer received a bachelor of science degree in aeronautical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, and a master of business administration, a master of science degree in management and a doctorate in management and organizations, all from Cornell University, Ithaca.

His research interests include leadership and influence in teams, interdisciplinary team processes, status in groups and social decision making.

Before coming to Clarkson, he taught negotiations and managing and leading organizations and was a research assistant at Cornell. He also was a management consultant for IBM's strategy and change internal practice and an armored cavalry officer for the Army.

In 2006, he co-authored "Advances in Group Processes: Social Psychology of the Workplace." He is affiliated with the Academy of Management, the International Association for Conflict Management, the American Psychological Association and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.

Joachim Stahlhas been appointed assistant professor of computer science and began teaching this fall.

Mr. Stahl received a bachelor of science degree in computer science from Augusta (Ga.) State University and a master of engineering degree and a doctorate in computer science and engineering from the University of South Carolina.

His research interests include computer vision, image processing, pattern recognition and machine learning. Current research includes perceptual organization, image segmentation, object detection and recognition and shape matching.

Before coming to Clarkson, he was a teaching assistant at Augusta State University and also was a teaching assistant, instructor and research assistant at the University of South Carolina.

He has co-authored six publications.

Maria Grachevahas been appointed assistant professor of physics and began teaching this fall.

She received a master of science and a doctoral degree in solid state physics from Moscow (Russia) State Engineering Physics Institute (MEPhI).

Her research interests include computational bionanotechnology, computational and theoretical biophysics in particular biochemical sensors, DNA sequencing, biological cell signaling and cell substrate interaction with an emphasis on large-scale and multiscale computations.

Before coming to Clarkson, she was a postdoctoral associate at Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, in the department of mathematics at University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, in the physics department at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pa., and in the department of physics and technical application of superconductivity at MEPhI.

A reviewer for the Journal of Theoretical Biology and the Journal of Computational Electronics, she has also co-authored 30 publications and was listed in Who's Who in Science and Engineering, 10th Anniversary Edition, 2008-09.

Hermon

Poetry published:Janice Brabaw,a 1997 graduate of Hermon-DeKalb Central School, recently published her first collection of poetry, "Universe, Disturbed." The book is available from Amazon.com or the author's Web site, www.JaniceBrabaw.com.

Ms. Brabaw, daughter of John and Gina Brabaw, Hermon, is also a 2001 graduate of the writing honors program at St. Lawrence University, Canton. Shortly after graduation, she moved to New York City to direct and produce her thesis screenplay, "The Space Between," and is the author of "And Again: A Memoir of Life Disturbed." She works in the television industry and lives in Brooklyn.
