'American Idol' finalist Anwar Robinson to portray Jesus in Syracuse Stage production

SYRACUSE — The top 10 finalist in the fourth season of "American Idol," recording artist, Broadway and film actor Anwar Robinson will play the role of Jesus in the upcoming holiday production of "Godspell" at Syracuse Stage, 820 East Genesee St.

Anwar Robinson has recorded and performed with Clive Davis, Patti LaBelle, Kelly Price and Donnie McClurkin, since his days on "American Idol" in 2005.

In 2007, he took on the role of "Collins" in the 2007-2008 National/International Tour of Jonathan Larson's iconic rock Opera "Rent." The tour made stops in more than 40 cities in the United States, Canada, and Japan.

Robinson is working on his debut solo album "The Truth About Love," with eclectic music that will tap into R&B, soul, jazz and gospel.

"Godspell" will run from Nov. 25 to Dec.28 at Syracuse Stage. Tickets range from $24 to $48 and discounts are available for seniors and students. Rush tickets are available two hours prior to curtain.
