DWI cited after car hits pole wire

Several homes lost power Friday morning when an allegedly drunken driver hit a support wire for a utility pole at County Route 43 and Route 37B, Massena, state police said.

Abbi E. Coffin, 22, County Route 43, Massena, was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, unlawful possession of marijuana and several traffic violations, troopers said.

She registered a 0.20 percent blood alcohol content, they said. A BAC level of 0.08 percent or more is considered proof of intoxication under state law. Aggravated DWI is charged when the BAC is 0.18 percent or more.

She was issued appearance tickets for Louisville Town Court.

In other DWI incidents:

■ A Turin man was charged Thursday with aggravated DWI while operating a lawn mower on Water Street, Lowville.

Village police said they saw William A. Williams, 49, Route 26, about 6 p.m. driving a John Deere lawn mower down the street and, while stopping to interview him, noticed the odor of alcohol on his breath. He allegedly had a blood alcohol content of 0.18 percent.

■ A motorist followed an alleged erratic driver Tuesday afternoon and, after notifying police by cell phone, was able to confront the suspect and remove his keys from the car on Route 37 in the town of Alexandria, according to state police.

Christopher J. Plummer, 19, Ogdensburg, was charged by state police shortly after 5 p.m. with driving while under the influence of drugs, DWI and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a butterfly knife. He was released on $300 bail by Alexandria Town Justice Sherry L. Pennington.

■ Travis M. Queary, 25, Castorland, was arrested by state police at 11:45 p.m. Thursday on Number Four Road in the town of Watson on charges of felony DWI and refusal to submit to a breath test. He was convicted of DWI in December 2005 in Lewis County, and also had a DWI case in 2007 in Fulton County.

■ Edward D. Moore, 52, of 121 Fairmont Ave., Watertown, faces charges of aggravated DWI, making an unsafe lane change and consuming an alcoholic beverage in a vehicle, charged at 7:15 p.m. Thursday by Jefferson County sheriff's deputies on Route 12F in the town of Watertown. His test result was listed at 0.18 percent BAC.

■ Joshua F. Miller, 23, Canton, was charged Friday with aggravated DWI, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and several traffic infractions after being stopped on Elm Street, Potsdam village police said. He registered 0.25 percent BAC, police said.

■ Eddie J. Watson, 34, Evans Mills, was charged by Watertown police with DWI, consuming an alcoholic beverage in a vehicle and having no rear license plate lamp as a result of his arrest at 1:10 a.m. Friday in the 300 block of Eastern Boulevard. He refused to take a breath test, police said.

■ Roy E. Beecher, 78, of 17481 Route 11, Watertown, was charged with DWI by Watertown police in the 100 block of Factory Street at 1:35 a.m. Friday, and also is cited with running a flashing red traffic light and failure to keep right. His test result was 0.16 percent, police said.

■ Jerry W. Harkleroad, 51, Pulaski, was cited with DWI, unsafe backing, a red light infraction and having an open alcoholic beverage in his vehicle when state police arrested him at 9 p.m. Thursday on Scharoun Drive in the town of Richland. He tested at 0.13 percent BAC, police said.

■ Hyung G. McCartney, 44, of 1620 Huntington St., Apt. E-8, Watertown, was charged by city police with aggravated DWI and failure to keep right at 4 a.m. Wednesday in the 1600 block of Huntington Street. She had a breath test result of 0.21 percent BAC, police said.

■ Marcus D. Taylor, 21, Kalamazoo, Mich., was charged with DWI and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation by state police at 3:20 a.m. Friday at routes 11 and 37 in the town of Pamelia. Troopers listed his test result as 0.14 percent BAC.

■ Jarl H. Schwelnus, 35, of 153 E. Main St., Gouverneur, was charged Wednesday with aggravated DWI after being stopped on Route 184 in the town of Oswegatchie. State police said he registered 0.18 percent BAC.

■ Darrell J. Snyder, 41, of 9961 Route 11, Winthrop, was charged Wednesday with DWI after being stopped on Route 420 in the town of Norfolk, state police said. He registered 0.15 percent BAC, police said.

■ Matthew P. Moyer, 22, Evans Mills, was arrested by state police at 10:55 p.m. Monday on charges of DWI and failure to obey a traffic control device on Eldon Drive in the town of LeRay.
