A public reception and writers contest reading will be held at 7 tonight in the Walker Instructional Dining Room, Jules Center, at Jefferson Community College (JCC) to recognize the winners of the North Country Writers Contest.
In September, the JCC English department sought entries for short fiction, essay/nonfiction and poetry. More than 100 submissions were received.
The 2008 North Country Writers Contest winners are: "
Short fiction winner: Chris Brock of Watertown — "Those Carp People"
Essay winner: Nanci Paroubek of Rodman — "It's Not a Sport"
Poetry winner: Caroline A. LeBlanc of Adams — "Orders"
Poetry winner: Josh A. Dickinson of Harrisville — "Rare avis: Vultures are the North Country's Cliches"
Barbara E. Tifft of Mannsville received honorable mention for her short fiction entry, "On the Path to the Dakota Hills," while the essay honorable mention was awarded to Ashley V. Oxenford of Three Mile Bay with entry, "Cruising America: Chaumont Bay, NY."

All six contestants will read their entry at tonight's reception. It is part of a week-long Writers Festival at JCC.
