John R. "Jack" Galloway, 82, Loudonville, formerly of Watertown, died on Tuesday at his home.
Mr. Galloway worked at the General Adjustment Bureau for a few years before taking a position at Harold Holt Associates as an insurance adjuster. He purchased the firm and presided over it for 40 years, retiring 10 years ago after selling the company.
Born in Watertown, son of William and Mary Colligan Galloway, he graduated from Immacuate Heart Academy and in 1947 from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana.
He married Martha Jane Peacock in 1952.
In his early years he coached his sons' Little League teams, was a Boy Scout leader and enjoyed tennis and the piano. He was a former president of the state Independent Insurance Adjusters Association and a member of the Notre Dame Club of Northeastern New York, Knights of Columbus Council 173 and Albany Elks. He was a communicant and lector at St. Pius X Church, Loudonville, and enjoyed visiting his camp at Sackets Harbor.
Surviving besides his wife are five sons and their wives, Matthew and Bijal, Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Mark and Suzanne, Camano Island, Wash., Luke and Karen, Terre Haute, Ind., John and Colleen, Richfield, Conn., and Tom and Colleen, Baltimore, Md.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Anne Galloway, Albany, and Mimi and Joseph Baranowski, Albany; 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several cousins.
A great-grandson died before him.
A funeral Mass procession will begin at 8:15 a.m. Saturday at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 N. Allen St., Albany.
A funeral Mass will be said at 9 a.m. at St. Pius X Church.
Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
Calling hours will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
