ALEXANDRIA BAY — Matt Damon and Ryan Grimshaw scored shootout goals to lift the Thousand Islands hockey team to a 3-2, first-round victory over Plattsburgh in the Alexandria Christmas Tournament.

Thousand Islands will play Alexandria for the championship at 3:30 p.m. today.

Trevor Parisian scored both goals in regulation, one of them unassisted, and Jon Hall made 29 saves for the Vikings (4-3).

C.J. Worley and Brett Bundo scored, Jared Murphy tallied two assists, and goalie Brandon Bechard turned away 29 shots for Plattsburgh.

ALEXANDRIA 6, ST. LAWRENCE 3

McKenzie Garlock and Jordan Sourwine each recorded one goal and one assist as the Purple Ghosts (4-3) earned a first-round victory in the Alexandria Christmas Tournament at Alexandria Bay.

The game was also a Northern Athletic Conference Division II matchup.

Zach Baldwin and Brady Helmer each provided one goal and one assist for the Larries (5-3 overall, 3-3 league).

BOYS BASKETBALL

CANTON 50, EDWARDS-KNOX 27

Mike Murray pouted in 21 points as Canton upended Edwards-Knox in the first round of the Burkman Classic at Canton.

Adam LaQuier pitched in with 10 points for the Golden Bears (3-4).

No player scored more than six points for Edwards-Knox (1-5).

HERMON-DEKALB 76,

COLTON-PIERREPONT 32

Kory Besaw contributed 13 points, six rebounds and four assists to lead Hermon-DeKalb in a first-round game of the Burkman Classic at Canton.

Brandon Rust supplied 12 points, and Jonathan Peters added 11 points for Hermon-DeKalb (6-1).

Alex Ensby scored 12 points to lead the Colts (0-7).

ALEXANDRIA 58, MORRISTOWN 54

Vincent Hoover put up 25 points and pulled down 19 rebounds to lead the Purple Ghosts to a first-round victory in the Morristown Christmas Tournament.

Tom Hayes added 16 points for Alexandria (3-5).

Will Griffith scored 15 points, and Jeff King added 10 points, six rebounds and five steals for the Green Rockets (0-8).

LAFARGEVILLE 71, HAMMOND 54

Brandon Davis and Josh Owens each contributed double-doubles in leading the Red Knights over the Red Devils in the first round of the Morristown Christmas Tournament.

Davis led the Red Knights with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Owens added 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Red Knights (4-5).

Griff Stark-Ennis scored 16 points for the Red Devils (3-3).

SANDY CREEK 57,

ALTMAR-PARISH-WILLIAMSTOWN 34

Taylor Ouderkirk recorded 13 points and nine rebounds to boost the Comets to a first-round victory in the Pulaski Tournament.

The game also counted as a Frontier League crossover game.

Sandy Creek will play Mexico in the championship game at 7 p.m. today.

Shane Conzone scored 12 points, Dylan Shiel added 11 points, and Mike Elkin provided six steals and five assists for Sandy Creek (7-1, 7-0).

Justin Bristol scored 13 points to lead the Rebels (0-7, 0-6).

IMMACULATE HEART CENTRAL 68,

WATERVILLE 50

Connor Caldwell connected for 30 points in the Cavaliers' victory at the Westmoreland Tournament.

IHC will play either Frankfort-Schuyler or Westmoreland in tonight's championship game.

Caldwell also finished with eight rebounds. Brian Magovney supplied 13 points, and Patrick Caldwell added 10. IHC's Marcus Emerson contributed eight points and eight rebounds.

TICONDEROGA 43, CHATEAUGAY 41

Jake Kelly accounted for 13 points to lead Ticonderoga to victory at Lake George.

Brad Spinner scored a game-high 14 points for the Bulldogs (4-3).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

TUPPER LAKE 42, LISBON 31

Amber Lawyer accounted for 12 points and five assists to help fuel the Lumberjacks to a first-round victory in the Cindy Brady Tournament at Heuvelton.

Beth Keniston supplied 11 points and eight rebounds for Tupper Lake (3-5).

Jaclyn Moore scored 10 points to lead the Golden Knights (2-6).

Kendra Cole scored 12 points, assisted on six baskets and made eight steals to lead the lady Red Knights to victory over the Sandy Creek Comets in the opening round of the Sandy Creek tournament.

Coach Colin Mingle credited the defense of Taylor Davis as being the key to victory for the Red Knights (2-5, 2-2).

Fantasia Grossman scored seven points to lead the Comets (0-5).
