BOMBAY — An 81-year-old woman was killed Tuesday when a milk truck hit her vehicle while she apparently attempted a U-turn on County Route 4.

Bombay resident Margaret D. Steen had stopped on the side of the road about 9:40 a.m. to make the U-turn in a 2006 Dodge minivan and reportedly didn't see the milk truck, state police investigators said. The tractor-trailer, driven by Jeffrey D. Miller, 36, Nicholville, hit her driver's side door.

Franklin County Coroner Brian S. Langdon said he pronounced her dead at Alice Hyde Medical Center, Malone, and ordered an autopsy for today. A preliminary cause of death was listed as massive internal injuries. Dr. Leonardo Dishman, a pathologist at Alice Hyde Medical Center, will perform the autopsy.

The investigation is continuing.
