Johnson's double-double propels Comets past Spartans

CARTHAGE — Sarah Johnson scored 22 points and snatched 10 rebounds to help Carthage hand South Jefferson its first loss of the season, 43-38, in a Frontier League crossover girls basketball game Monday.

Joey Percy recorded 11 points and eight rebounds, and Amy Tiernan racked up six steals for Carthage (10-4 overall, 7-2 league), which faces Indian River on Wednesday to decide the "A" Division championship.

South Jefferson (12-1, 10-1) received 13 points from Rachael Bassett and 10 points from Cassie St. Hilaire.

IMMACULATE HEART CENTRAL 60, WATERTOWN 46

Jillian Young recorded 19 points, and the Cavaliers won an "A" Division game against the host Cyclones.

Alicia Spooner scored 13 points and registered five steals, and Caitlin McGraw led IHC (11-6, 7-3) with nine rebounds.

Bonny Gardner netted 24 points for Watertown (5-11, 3-7).

Courtney Allen produced 20 points, 12 rebounds, four steals and four assists as the Patriots downed the Falcons in a crossover game in Turin.

Amber Butcher recorded 12 points and five assists, and Dana Gorman scored 11 points and added seven steals and six rebounds for Sackets Harbor (14-3, 12-0).

Nancy Newell scored 16 points for South Lewis (3-13, 3-11).

Bit Hall connected on four free throws in overtime to help lift the Vikings to a "C" Division victory at Sandy Creek.

Kristin McGraw dropped in two foul shots to tie the game at the end of regulation.

Hall and McGraw finished with 14 and 10 points, respectively, for Thousand Islands (10-5, 10-3).

Fantasia Grossman scored 13 points, and Tiffany Howlett added 10 for the Comets (0-14).

OGDENSBURG FREE ACADEMY 54, POTSDAM 48

Megan Morrison scored 20 points to help the Blue Devils (10-6, 4-4) earn a victory over Potsdam in a Northern Athletic Conference Central Division game in Ogdensburg.

Lindsay Drummond added 11 points for OFA. Tess Hazen led Potsdam (10-7, 5-4) with 18 points.

Kelsey Johnson scored 13 points, and Maggie Agulia added 12 to lead Malone (14-4, 9-2) past the Golden Bears in a Central Division game in Canton. Heather Lottie scored 13 points, and Tressa Goolden tossed in 12 for Canton (4-13, 3-6).

Nicole Johnson recorded 12 points, and Janelle Bradish contributed 10 to lead Massena (14-4, 9-2) past the Wildcats in a Central Division game at Gouverneur. Jennifer Brown scored nine for the Wildcats (3-14, 1-9).

Brushton-Moira limited the Bulldogs (15-1, 9-1) to just four points in the first quarter and held on to pick up an East Division win in Chateaugay.

Candy Dufrane led the Panthers (9-3, 9-2) with 15 points, and Shayna Russell added 10 for Brushton-Moira. Danielle Swanston scored 15 points for Chateaugay.

Abbey Shoen scored 21 points for Madrid-Waddington (14-3, 10-1) in an East Division win over the Panthers in Parishville. Stephanie Cox scored 18 points, and Brooke Waite added 11 for the Panthers (3-14, 2-10).

Krista Lucas led the Saints (13-4, 8-4) with 15 points and 16 rebounds in an East Division win over Salmon River (2-12, 1-8) at St. Regis Falls. Danielle Fountain scored 22 points for the Saints.

Jaclyn Moore led Lisbon (9-8, 7-4) with nine points in a West Division win over the Demons in DeKalb Junction. Lisbon outscored Hermon-DeKalb 15-6 in the final quarter to overcome a six-point deficit.

Rochelle Whitton and Michele Watkins each scored six for Hermon-DeKalb (7-8, 4-5).

HAMMOND 52, EDWARDS-KNOX 24

Malynda Jenne produced 16 points to lead the Red Devils (14-2, 10-0) past Edwards-Knox in a West Division game at Hammond. Vanessa Bullock led the Cougars (3-11, 1-8) with 13 points.

Leah Malbeuf scored 17 points for the Pirates in a West Division win over Clifton-Fine (2-10, 1-10) in Harrisville. Desiree Hall added 10 points for the Pirates (13-0, 10-0).
