The look of traditional rustic furniture in the year 2525 is one description of pieces to be offered at the Adirondack Museum's "Rustic Tomorrow" benefit auction. Imagine a futuristic Westport chair, a desk described as historic rustic maker Ernest Stowe meets George Jetson, or a child's desk with a birdhouse complete with nest and eggs.

The unique furnishings are showcased in a traveling exhibit called "Rustic Tomorrow," and will be auctioned at 7:30 p.m. May 6 at D. Wigmore Fine Art, Inc., 730 Fifth Ave., Suite 602, New York City, where the items will be on view from April 22 through May 6.

The auction will include six one-of-a-kind works created by leading American architects, designers, and rustic furniture makers. The auctioneer will be Eric Widing of Christie's Auction House, New York City.

Each of the "Rustic Tomorrow" pieces can be seen on the Adirondack Museum's web site by visiting www.adirondackmuseum.org (http://www.adirondackmuseum.org) and click on special events. Absentee bidding is open and may be arranged by contacting the Adirondack Museum Senior Advancement Officer Christine Pouch at 1 (518) 352-7311, ext. 130 or e-mail cpouch@adkmuseum.org.

The Adirondack Museum at Blue Mountain Lake introduced "Rustic Tomorrow" in 2008. Six modernist and post modernist architects or designers were paired with prominent Adirondack rustic furniture makers. The results of these collaborations are distinctly futuristic in design, but constructed using traditional time-honored techniques. The goal of the project was to demonstrate the relevance of Adirondack rustic traditions to contemporary life and design.

The Adirondack Museum is a regional museum of art, history, and material culture, known for extensive collections, exhibits, and a research library that reflect stories of life, work, and play in the Adirondack Park and Northern New York. Proceeds from the May 6 auction will support museum exhibitions and programs.
