GREAT BEND — Jefferson County sheriff's deputies said a drunken Carthage motorist injured a Deferiet teenager in a head-on car collision Saturday night on Route 3, Champion.

Deputies charged Matthew L. Null, 33, of 34463 Jackson II Road, with aggravated driving while intoxicated, speeding, failure to keep right and driving across hazard markings following the 8:11 p.m. accident.

Mr. Null, deputies said, was southbound when he drove his car off the road's west shoulder and struck a guide rail. Police said the car re-entered the road, crossed the center line and struck a northbound car driven by Jessica M. Ivey, 16, of 23 Anderson St., Deferiet.

Following the accident, Miss Ivey complained of neck pain and was taken to Carthage Area Hospital. Her passengers — Timothy J., 39, Cheryl L., 37, and Nicole L. Ivey, 10 — were not injured.

Mr. Null also was not injured, deputies said. Police said he registered a blood alcohol content of 0.18 percent. A BAC level of 0.08 percent or more is considered proof of intoxication under state law. Aggravated DWI is charged when the BAC is 0.18 percent or more.

He is to answer the charges in Champion Town Court.

Others charged with DWI:

■ Corey A. Baker, 24, of 765 Morgan Road, Liverpool, was charged by state police after he failed to navigate a curve on County Route 28 and struck three road signs in the town of Waddington at 5:12 a.m. Sunday, police said.

He had a blood alcohol content of 0.11 percent, state police said. He is to answer the charge in Waddington Town Court.

■ Patricia M. Oakes, 28, of Hogansburg, was charged by state police at 2:57 a.m. Saturday after a traffic stop on Route 56 in the town of Norfolk. State police said she refused a Breathalyzer test and also was charged with having inadequate headlights and first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Ms. Oakes was arraigned in Norfolk Town Court and was sent to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, on $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond.

■ Ace M. Hanson, 29, of 19 Fulton St., Antwerp, was charged by village police with aggravated DWI after a traffic stop on William Street in Gouverneur at 2:32 a.m. Sunday. He also was charged with operating a motorcycle without a helmet. Village police did not release Mr. Hanson's BAC. He is to answer the charge in Gouverneur Town Court.
