CLAYTON — The Psychic Fair at the Clayton Opera House has become an annual event where those wondering about their futures can get some answers.

"I was just curious," said Mary J. Cunningham, Gouverneur, who was waiting in line for a reading from Barbara Konish, a psychic/medium. "We own our own business, so I want to see if we're going to make it past this season. I hope it gives me a sense of peace."

This was the third year for the Psychic Fair, New Age Marketplace and Community Food Drive.

Connie B. "Rya" Burke, organizer of the two-day event, said each year the event has grown in participation and food donations, which this year are being turned over to a Watertown food pantry.

"We're hoping it will continue to grow in years to come. We're just starting to get the ball rolling," Ms. Burke said. "I think right now a lot of people are here because they're scared about their jobs or finances. They want to know about their spiritual selves or if they're on the right path. This is a good place to come and get answers."

Susan K. O'Neill, Clayton, got a reiki massage and a reading from Ms. Konish.

"What she knew about me, especially personality-wise, really surprised me," Mrs. O'Neill said. "I think if you take all of this for what it's worth, it's certainly entertaining. I'm excited to get home and listen to the tape of the reading to hear what she said again."

Michelle L. Claassen, Fort Drum, is a reiki masseuse and came to the event to see some of her friends and colleagues.

"I just like that they're all like-minded and open-minded people," Ms. Claassen said. "It's good to see everyone. It's such a great energy here."

She said she was looking forward to getting her aura read to see "if I am still on the same path I've been on in the last couple of years."

There were also psychics at the fair who read tarot cards and do shamanic reading, palm reading and stone reading.

There were many vendors selling handmade jewelry, books, oils, incense and other new age products.

Last year, more than 160 pounds of food was raised for the Clayton Food Pantry, and as of Sunday afternoon this year almost 200 pounds of food had been collected.

Sunday's keynote speaker was Laura Vannah, with her workshop "Personal Growth Though the Art of Acting."

"I wanted to share what I've learned through acting techniques," Ms. Vannah said. "I've learned that many things actors do can really help individuals. I hope that people use these techniques to better themselves and open up. It's showed that acting can increase communication skills and self-esteem. And, as we better ourselves, we begin to better the world."

Ms. Vannah uses American Indiananimal totems and her knowledge of the spiritual process to help people.

"Animal totems are used to show people what in nature is important to them," she said. "You can learn a lesson or get a message from nature that can really help you in your life."
