Dustin S. Sauer, 19, of 216 S. Clinton St., Carthage, was charged Friday with driving while intoxicated and other offenses after leading an officer on a high-speed chase, according to Carthage village police.
Police said the incident started when Mr. Sauer was allegedly driving at 60 mph on South Washington Street, which has a 30-mph limit. When the officer tried to pull the Sauer vehicle over, Mr. Sauer allegedly zig-zagged through the village at speeds exceeding 85 mph until he reached a driveway on Fulton Street around 11:45 p.m.
He registered a 0.13 percent blood alcohol content, police said. State law establishes 0.08 percent BAC as the threshold for intoxication.
Mr. Sauer additionally was charged with consuming alcohol while in a vehicle and unlawful possession of marijuana, and received traffic tickets for allegedly driving on Oxford, South James and State streets without observing stop signs or using a turn signal, and failure to keep right for allegedly driving in the oncoming traffic lane on South Washington Street.
Also charged with DWI:
■ Calvin R. Kampff, 35, of 370 Weaver Road, Sandy Creek, was arrested by state police at 8:55 p.m. Monday on a charge of felony DWI on Salisbury Street in the town of Sandy Creek.
He also was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, failure to keep right and operating an uninspected vehicle.
Police said he had a breath test reading of 0.15 percent BAC. Felony DWI is charged when the motorist has been convicted of DWI within the past 10 years.
