Winthrop man indicted on sex counts

NORTH LAWRENCE — A Winthrop man faces four charges after allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old girl in December.

Mark A. Simonds, 28, of 280 County Route 41, was charged Tuesday with second-degree rape, second-degree criminal sexual act, both felonies, and misdemeanor child endangerment and third-degree sexual abuse in an unsealed indictment. The incident allegedly occurred Dec. 22 in the town of Lawrence.

He pleaded innocent Tuesday in St. Lawrence County Court, Canton, and was sent to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, without bail.

Judge Jerome J. Richards issued a protection order for the victim.
