LOWVILLE — A man remained jailed Friday on six charges as a result of a search conducted early April 24 by state troopers and Lowville police in the towns of Watson and Greig.
Joshua D. Rogers, 23, Lyons Falls, is charged with unlawfully dealing with a child, a violation of probation, leaving the scene of an accident, speeding, aggravated unlicensed operation and driving an uninsured vehicle. Bail was set at $2,000 in town of New Bremen Court, and he was taken to Lewis County jail.
Police said a patrol met his car shortly before 1 that morning on Number Four Road in the town of Watson, where his speed allegedly registered on radar at 66 mph in a 40-mph speed zone. The trooper turned around and followed the car, but did not go into high-speed pursuit, police said.
The motorist lost control of the vehicle, drove across and damaged a lawn, and then continued to proceed for a distance, police said. The car, a Camaro, subsequently was found abandoned on Pine Grove Road.
Assisted by the Lowville K-9 patrol, troopers followed a trail toward Otter Creek Road, where they found at a house a 20-year-old man who admitted he was a passenger in the Camaro, police said. The man admitted he was given alcoholic beverages by the driver, whom he identified as Mr. Rogers, police said.
Mr. Rogers was sentenced in January 2007 to five years' probation for third-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
