Alexandria claims crown in Frontier League championships

Alexandria scored 53 points to capture the team title at the Frontier League boys tennis championships on Monday at Watertown High School.

The tournament was suspended Saturday due to rain.

Lowville claimed second place with 47 points, while Carthage (40) took third, and Watertown (37) finished fourth.

Lowville's Dan Cannan secured the first singles title with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory over McKenzie Garlock of Alexandria.

Alexandria's Shawn Martin defeated Phillip Hodosy, 6-2, 6-2, in the final to win at second singles. Travis Martin of Alexandria beat Watertown's Zach Inger, 6-0, 6-0, in the third singles final.

In first doubles, John Hammond and Dan Towle of Carthage defeated Ethan Thomson and Riley Thomson of Alexandria, 6-4, 6-2, in the final. Thomas McCarty and Nathan Silsby of Carthage secured the second doubles title with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Achintya Ashok and Tyler Reynolds of Watertown.

SOUTH JEFFERSON 9

Taylor Hughes produced four goals to help propel the Cyclones to the Frontier League victory at Adams.

Maureen Keggins supplied two goals and two assists, Rachel Schneeberger and Taylor Nims added two goals each, and Maggie McAuliffe made 14 saves for Watertown (9-3, 5-1), which trailed 6-4 at halftime.

Maria Behling scored three goals, and Carly VanTassel and Liz Algie contributed two goals each for the Spartans (10-5, 5-4).

GENERAL BROWN 16,

INDIAN RIVER 15

Nichole Eamer's eight goals sparked the Lions past the Warriors at Philadelphia.

Haleigh Flint added four goals, while Jenna Flath had a goal and three assists for General Brown (7-6, 2-6).

Indian River (1-8, 0-7) was led by Kayleigh Pearson's four goals. Teddi Filiatrault, Chelsea Boshart and Whitney Boshart each supplied three goals.

CARTHAGE 15, IMMACULATE HEART 3

Gabbi Kamide scored three goals and assisted on four others as the host Comets beat the Cavaliers.

Katie Ferris provided five goals and one assist, Kailah Kempney scored five goals, and Katherine DeRonda added one goal and four assists for Carthage (11-3, 7-0).

Briana McClusky tallied two goals for the Cavaliers (7-5, 3-4).

BOYS LACROSSE

WATERTOWN 19, INDIAN RIVER 9

Taylor Reardon scored five goals and assisted on four others to help lead the Cyclones to the Frontier League "A" Division victory at Philadelphia.

Brenden Mance provided five goals and one assist, Mike Hibbard scored four goals, Chad Gebo supplied two goals and four assists, and Eric Gefell tacked on two goals for Watertown (8-6, 5-3).

Corey Brown recorded one goal and three assists, while David Spaulding, Craig Norsworthy and Stephen Bush scored two goals apiece for the Warriors (1-12, 1-8).

GENERAL BROWN 14, HEUVELTON 3

Rob Thomas scored four goals and assisted on three others in the Lions' nonleague victory at Dexter.

Zac Van Brockin and Jared Flath each added two goals and two assists for General Brown (7-7).

LOWVILLE 13, CLINTON 11

John Olmstead had four goals as the Red Raiders won a nonleague matchup at Clinton.

Cody Carpenter tallied three goals, and Taylor Ross scored two for Lowville (5-7).
