I just paid a fine of $175 in town of Henderson court for speeding in a 25 mph zone. After completing a 3,000-mile trip to Dallas and back, where I did not see one speed trap, I ran afoul of the law on Route 123 in Henderson Harbor, a ridiculous 25 mph road in the village where the state police chose to place a $75,000-per-year state trooper in a radar speed trap April 27.
He must have had nothing else to do except patrol the village streets here in the crime capital of the Northeast.
After my assessment was more than doubled this year, I was considering a move to a more favorable location to spend my remaining days. I am 76, on a fixed income. This was the icing on the cake.
If you are thinking about dining or fishing in Henderson Harbor, be prepared to add a few hundred dollars to the price, or just don't go there.
If I had been a tourist seeking a dining and fishing area, do you think I would be back? The state got $175, and the business people of Henderson lost about $1,000.
