A wind storm Thursday toppled trees, took down power lines and scattered debris across the north country.

The strong winds left about 1,100 households in St. Lawrence County without power, National Grid officials said. Communities with outages included the towns of Hopkinton, Colton and Stockholm.

Lewis County had about 120 homes and Jefferson County had around 40 without power. National Grid had power restored to those areas by Thursday afternoon, according to its Web site.

The National Weather Service office in Burlington, Vt., issued a wind advisory for the north country, with winds expected to reach about 50 miles per hour. The advisory was subsequently canceled.
