DEXTER — A man's body was discovered on the shore of Black River off Maynard Avenue in the village shortly before 3 p.m. Friday.
Four teenagers — two girls and two boys — discovered a dead body of a man on the shore.
Andrew B. Cronk, Maynard Avenue, who lives about 500 feet from the scene, said that he had lived in Dexter since 1973 and that the riverside is usually quiet and peaceful.
Carol M. Lamon, Maynard Avenue, said she felt bad for the teenagers who discovered the body.
"I've lived here for 30 years and I've never seen anything like this before," she said. "Those poor kids..."
The body was taken to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown and will be examined by Dr. Samuel A. Livingstone, Jefferson County medical examiner.
State police Investigator Randy S. Pound was on the river near the scene looking for evidence.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department assisted the state police.
State police Friday night refused to give any information on the case, including whether the death was natural or suspicious.
